Q:  What is MeetingApps.com and why was it created?

Our site, MeetingApps.com is the first portal for apps specific to  the meetings and events industry. This site was created for the sole purpose to save meeting and event planners both time and money. Kirsten Strand, BSc, CMM, CITE,  the creator of MeetingApps.com, recognized the current challenges in the meetings business. "We are all driven to prove the value of meetings and to work more efficiently.  For years I have had the pleasure of working directly for a few select clients.  My  vision is to also help other planners and hospitality partners easily access useful tools that will make a difference in their day to day business activities." Kirsten Strand has partnered with the leading internet technology pros, Joseph Lo and Jane Huynh, to create the first on-line app directory - MeetingApps.com. We look forward to hearing your feedback and comments about our site.

Q:  I am an association or Corporate Planner. I am very busy. Why should I even bother sharing with my team the apps available at MeetingApps.com?

A:  As an association or Corporate Planner, you are always under pressure to deliver results.  In today's times, you have limited budgets and internal resources.  Every step of the way, you are looking to find greater efficiencies in how you operate your meetings and events.  Quite often, your internal department has been downsized and you have to "do more for less".  By sending an internal email to your entire meetings team, and sharing MeetingApps.com with them, they will be able to shave off hours in sourcing the best apps to improve their internal efficiencies.  Once they download an appropriate app, then they will also save additional time during both site inspection visits and when operating meetings and events.  Just imagine each of your meetings and events team members being able to do the following through their iPhones (or smart phones) :

  • tracking flights mid-air
  • knowing the layouts of airports
  • finding the best rated "value" wines
  • through GPS, having immediate access to local attractions, shopping and restaurants  in the area
  • using the phone to "count" attendees (so your f&b tabs are accurate and recorded)
  • scanning business cards to track who you are meeting with
  • receiving alert data from worldwide sources such as WHO, CDC, FEMA and other risk management sources
  • translating languages
  • converting currencies
  • viewing cruise ship plans
  • knowing layouts of convention & exhibition space
  • accessing maps of the area
  • tracking "carbon footprints" and "green information"
  • resourcing all key reference tools
  • tracking "friend or colleague" positions - so you know where your fellow meeting planners or VIPs are located
  • finding complete "destination knowledge" through CVB and destination apps
  • immediately calculating appropriate tips for area
  • sourcing all dialing country codes
  • replacing existing costly technology with lower cost "app technology"
  • finding out information about your preferred hotel(s)
  • finding the best "value" hotels in the area
  • sending electronic postcards
  • recording your voice
  • tracking all of passwords
  • taking photos and video and archiving data
  • finding the best off-site venues
  • sharing pertinent information with event and meeting attendees

Q:  I own a Destination Management Company (DMC).  How can using www.MeetingApps.com benefit us?

As a DMC, you are considered to be the "local expert".  Your value, and what you are selling to potential clients, is your complete knowledge about the local destination.  Often clients will meet with several DMCs, deciding who to select during the site inspection visits or during sales presentations.  How often has your team been asked a question that they don't have an immediate answer?  Instead of saying "I'll get back to you", now your team can immediately access the information from their iPhone or smart phone.  On www.MeetingApps.com, you will find apps that can be downloaded onto your mobile devices.  These apps will contain information about airlines, airports, hotels, venues, restaurants, local transportation services, wines, highlights about the destination and much more.  The GPS capabilities will allow your team to discover local resources, and have contact information and specifications immediately accessible.

When your sales team is attending trade shows, the sales and connectivity apps will increase productivity.  This includes:

  • "bumping" iPhones to exchange information
  • tracking expense reports
  • discovering details about connections through "LinkedIn"
  • recording meetings and documenting details
  • maintaining sustainable practices - tracking carbon costs
  • tracking Twitter and Top Tweets
  • decreasing costs by using iCall, Skype and other apps

During the program operations stage, your team will now be more efficient using iPad apps.  Gone are the days of carrying around the five pound 3-ring binders.  Now all of the program details, along with the best apps, will be a fingers stoke away.  The iPad apps will provide a further level of destination detail to impress guests, attendees and VIPs.

Q:  I am a Hotel Executive. Why should I bother with even looking at MeetingApps.com?

Today's climate is more and more competitive.  As you know, one has to first sell the destination, then the property.  There is no other tool that will give you immediate access to everything you need to know about your destination.  Through MeetingApps.com, you will be able to source detailed information about the benefits of your specific locale.  And there's more:  apps will assist you with your productivity, travel experiences, personal interests and much more.  Just imagine remotely:

  • tracking your "contacts"
  • accessing your local CVB app
  • making free voice calls
  • tracking all of your passwords
  • finding the closest restaurants to your property
  • making your air travel an easier experience
  • sourcing all of the benefits of your local area, from architecture to heritage sites
  • having all of the facts of your property on hand - "never being stumped again"
  • sourcing your city guide
  • using Skype iPhone App to save money
  • accessing your professional LinkedIn Network
  • staying connected through Facebook
  • getting the latest news
  • easily recording all travel expenses - for immediate report submissions
  • sharing information about your hotels in your global chain
  • finding off-site venues close to your hotel
  • accessing immediate floor plans
  • finding updated weather reports
  • catching up on the news
  • and much, much more

Q:  What is an iPhone app?

A:  An iPhone app is a third party software application, approved by Apple, designed specifically for an iPhone. These apps have diverse functionalities including meeting management, reference, GPS navigation, news and more.

Q:  What is the difference between a web app and an iPhone app?

A:  Web applications or web apps combine the power of the Internet with the simplicity of Multi-Touch technology, all on a 3.5-inch screen of your iPhone. The difference between a web app and an iPhone app is that a web app does not require any app installation.  The web app is accessed through your phone's browser so a constant internet connection is required in order to use the web application. The majority of the iPhone apps can be used without internet connection once the app is installed or downloaded onto the phone.

Our team has spent countless hours in researching apps specific to the meetings industry, and then categorizing them for easy retrieval. You will be able to search for apps by categories such as meeting management, hotels, CVBs, cool tools and much more. The portal is designed for you to easily source the app that you need.

Q:  How can using apps save me time and money?

A:  Having information readily available to you on the tip of your fingertips will definitely save you time and money. When managing a meeting or event, you will need to easily find information about flights, airport terminals, hotels, destinations, restaurants, and much more. Now you can download apps to easily find the information you require. Additionally, the GPS functionality of apps allows you to find out about your local meeting destination. There are even specific "meeting management" apps that can be used by not only your planning team, but also by attendees. Many of these apps replace other expensive technologies. As there is often no need to print or bring unnecessary paper, the apps are "green" and can help you save on printing costs. You can now access your information online anytime: efficiently, quickly and with incredible ease.
